22# Jason Lengstorf - WebStar!

Author of three books. Speaker on design, development, marketing, and business. Founder of Copter Labs. Failed musician. Frequent traveler. Mediocre bartender. Jason Lengstorf is the Founder of Copter Labs, where he builds marketing sites for companies like Intel, PlayStation, and Precision Nutrition. He is the author of three books on web development, a member of the advisory board for Future Insights, a frequent speaker at conferences, a consultant, and a mediocre bartender. My failed music career did show me that I really enjoyed the business side of things. As the de facto manager of the band, I’d designed posters, negotiated payments, booked shows, built the band website, and handled promotion — mostly through MySpace, which still mattered at this point. Rather than continuing to chase a musical career, I made a transition into web design. The more I learned about it, the more I liked it.  I landed my first client, and then another, and before I knew it I was “a web designer”. Like, for realsies. As a speaker, I get to talk about the things I’m excited about with people who are excited to hear about them. I can’t actually think of anything more fun than that. I play for a living. I’m excited about what I do every day when I start working, and I usually don’t want to stop at the end of the day. When I’m offline, I spend a lot of time pretending I’m an excellent bartender, exploring new parts of the world as often as I’m able, and trying to stay active both physically and socially.
