AALP 159 – Ultimate Self Compassion with Kristin Neff

Art of Abundance with Leisa Peterson - Podcast tekijän mukaan Leisa Peterson

Sometimes it takes patience to bring your dreams into reality and today I get to share a big dream of mine with you. That dream was to interview a woman I’ve been crushing on from the moment I saw her speak at Wisdom 2.0 in 2014 — her name is Kristin Neff, Ph.D. and she is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on self-compassion.  This interview was well worth the wait and the timing is perfect is oh so many ways — Kristin has a new online course coming out this month and her calendar is full of events happening around the world.  It is also perfect as I had plenty of time to prepare lots of questions that Kristin graciously answers during our chat. During this conversation, you’ll learn: * The critical steps you must take in your own life to begin treating yourself better. * The 4 misconceptions about self-compassion and why it matters to replenish your own batteries. * What the research says about the importance of self-compassion. * How to apply more self-compassion towards your relationship with money. * How self-compassion and sexual authenticity go together. * What is self-compassion “backdraft” and why it helps to take things slowly at times. * And so much more! More about Kristin… Kristin studied communications as an undergraduate at the University of California at Los Angeles. She did her graduate work at University of California at Berkeley, studying moral development with Dr. Elliot Turiel. Her dissertation research was conducted in Mysore, India, where she examined children’s moral reasoning. She then spent two years of post-doctoral study with Dr. Susan Harter at Denver University, studying issues of authenticity and self-concept development. She is currently and Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. During Kristin’s last year of graduate school she became interested in Buddhism, and has been practicing meditation in the Insight Meditation tradition ever since. While doing her post-doctoral work she decided to conduct research on self-compassion – a central construct in Buddhist psychology and one that had not yet been examined empirically. In addition to her pioneering research into self-compassion, she has developed an 8-week program to teach self-compassion skills.  Her book, Self-Compassion, was published by William Morrow in April, 2011.
