In recent days, people in power have discussed proposals as ludicrous as taxing unrealized gains, banning the investments in private placements with tax-advantaged accounts, and implementing a federal 43.4% capital gains tax.  From my perspective, it always feels like these seemingly outlandish proposals are meant to get a pulse on how close the citizenry is to tolerating the new level of taxation and set the stage for what might be soon to come. Given the way this conversation is going in the media, I’ve found myself asking a question that I’m sure many of you have been asking as well…  How on earth did we get here, and why is this happening?  Today, we are joined by Domic Fisby, the author of several books, including Daylight Robbery: How Tax Shaped Our Past and Will Change Our Future.
