Anne-Marie Cade, founder of Divorce Right is here today to talk to us about her transition from traditional law practice to the exciting world of Conflict Resolution, how she got there and what she’s learned from her extensive professional experience. Divorce. Everyone thinks that it’s tricky, it’s painful and it tends to bring out the worst in people. Unless that’s just a story we’re telling ourselves? Anne-Marie firmly believes so. During our conversation, we delve into the negative narratives that linger in traditional family law firms which are, in part, spurred on by the media. As ever when you throw old concepts out, you have to replace them with new ones, so Anne-Marie helps her clients think of divorce more as a business transaction. It’s a refreshing point of view with a surprisingly effective outcome. Anne-Marie plays a unique role in the divorce process by helping her clients sift through the uncertainties that surround redefining one’s future. As a Divorce Coach, she calls herself an Objective Thinking Partner. In her own words, she walks the path with her clients and lets them come to their own decisions – rather than encouraging spite, she strips back the layers of emotion to focus on the practicalities of separation. “While we’re advocating for our clients, in some areas of life that really doesn’t work. If we’re drafting an affidavit that details all the worst things about their partner, how are they ever going to co-parent?” Anne-Marie is most definitely doing law differently. Listening to her speak has added to and reinforced my own ideas about where our industry is failing and what it needs to do to be better. Let’s be more creative. Let’s branch out into other things. Let’s draw on other skills and, ultimately, see things differently. It’s almost impossible to distill Anne-Marie’s philosophy of law down, specifically because of her interdisciplinary approach. Throughout the episode our guest drops so many valuable nuggets of information that you’ll really just have to listen to it. I’ll let Anne-Marie finish this one off herself. “I don’t believe in using one process. I think there’s incredible value in litigation but it has to be done well and it has to be done right – NOT in a way that destroys a relationship – clients bring their best selves to the process and that’s how I work.” About our guest Anne-Marie is the founder of Divorce Right which is Coaching & Mediation practice.
