Episode 1 : Pamela Spokes on immigrant entrepreneurship in Finland

Canadian-born service design entrepreneur Pamela Spokes is our guest on the first episode of Finland: Through the looking glass. A resident of Finland since 2007, she shares insights she's learned from her entrepreneurial journey and ponders a few of the big questions facing Finland: skilled immigration and what Finland could look like in the future, unemployment among the foreign-background community and English as a gateway language to a career in Finland. “It’s better to do the right thing wrong than to do the wrong thing right,” she says of designing services aimed at attracting foreign talent. Om Podcasten

“Finland: Through the looking glass” offers a frank and unfiltered look at Finland through the lens of its diverse foreign-background community, through one-on-one conversations with host, Denise Wall. It’s an opportunity for the community to share its own unique stories and experiences and to fearlessly weigh in on the social and political discourses shaping its reality in the adopted homeland. The show covers a range of themes such as entrepreneurship, ageing, belonging, study, unemployment and the job search and family reunification, to name a few.
