A Girl in a Patriarchy w/ Lola Binkerd

IndoctriNation - Podcast tekijän mukaan Rachel Bernstein

Lola Binkerd is an Author and Actress who was born and raised as a fourth-generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has lived in Los Angeles for 16 years and her horror anthology "The River God and Other Stories" and short story "4-H" are available as eBooks on Gumroad and Amazon. Lola shares with Rachel her experiences as a child growing up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and explains how those experiences have affected her as an adult. She describes the toxic effects of raising girls to believe blind obedience and total self-sacrifice are feminine virtues, and how teaching girls to marry and defer to the right kind of man sets them up to be the victims of narcissists and high-control groups, even if they leave the religion/group itself. Before You Go: Rachel expands on Lola's childhood experience of being made to feel that her needs are secondary to those perceived to be higher up in the religious hierarchy of the church. She compares it to her own childhood experiences as the "baby" of the family and how it affected her relationships as an adult.
