Raise your hand if you have ever thought that you would never make it, that you aren't good enough, that you will never be as good as...fill in the blank. Everyone feels this from time to time. The key is not to get stuck in it. Today on the Christian women in business podcast, we are talking about some tips and reminders that you can use to combat the dreaded imposter syndrome. It is time to get out of that habit and finally overcome imposter syndrome! Define Success for YOU Stop looking around and seeing what everyone else is doing. It keeps you stuck and from doing the work that God has for you to do! The first step is to define success for yourself. Keep your eyes on your goals, your success marker, and what God is inviting you into in your business. In addition, know your gifts and your super power so that you can just focus on that! Stay in your lane. Philippians 4:8 is a great reminder when you are starting to feel that imposter syndrome creeping in again. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Remember Who You Are See yourself the way God sees you and then speak kindly to yourself. You would never speak so negatively over your children or to someone else - so why are you doing that to yourself? Overcoming imposter syndrome happens when we are able to change the narrative in our own minds. Instead of looking at what others are doing, look to God for affirmation. A great reminder is found in Psalm 16:8 “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” Is It Fear or Scarcity That’s Causing Your Imposter Syndrome? If you have the mindset that you’re never going to be enough, that you aren’t going to have enough, or you keep using words like “never”, “enough” or always, this kind of mindset is controlling your mind. On the flip side, we can also be afraid of success. There are a lot of lies in the church that we shouldn’t be successful or rich. It becomes easy to look at the lies instead of the truth and promises that God has for us. We have to be discerning about the lies Satan tries to tell us - they are the same over and over. Another lie that we can believe is that everyone else is already doing what we’re doing. Take those thoughts captive. 2 Timothy 1:7 says “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” Discover the Root of It How do we get to the root of what is causing our imposter syndrome? Social media is a big culprit. Unfollow. Unsubscribe. Put up some boundaries. Protect your sanity. Remember Hebrews 12:1-2 "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith."
