Episode 31: The Importance of Being Trauma-Informed As A Coach If you are a coach, are thinking about becoming a coach, or are looking for a coach, this episode is for you! Being a trauma-informed coach, especially if the kind of work you do with people touches on their personal experiences in the world, is imperative in providing supportive, ethical and responsible client care.  The coaching industry continues to expand at a rapid rate, more and more people are turning to coaches for both life and business development, and while this is a wonderful trend (because I am all for people being able to access personal development and help in all different forms, whether it's through coaching or therapy), there are very real concerns that present themselves in a space where no *required* training or regulation exists to govern this growing profession.  I've had clients, potential clients, and other coaches tell me about experiences they've had in the coaching industry where they've been in spaces and worked with coaches individually that triggered past traumatic events, which resulted in negative repercussions for the client. Even though most coaches have good intentions and want to help, there is a real lack of training and knowledge on how to properly handle situations where past trauma is triggered AND there is very little to no conversation about what it means to remain in their scope of practice, and when to refer a client to a therapist for continued deeper work. If you work with people, being trauma-informed is a necessity, because every person has some level of trauma.  In this episode we dive into: -why being a trauma-informed coach should be a standard regardless of what kind of coaching you are providing -ways that you can start integrating a trauma-informed lens on how you lead your business -if you're looking to hire a coach, how to pick one that has the kind of background and experience that you need, depending on the kind of work you are doing with them -why going through your own healing journey with something doesn't necessarily qualify you to coach someone else through theirs (aka considering the limitations of what you can provide, depending on the depth of work that you are doing) -when to refer someone to a therapist -how honoring your own zone computes to higher client satisfaction and more positive business growth And so much more!!
