#278 - How to Be Strong But Not Brittle

The Strong Stoic Podcast - Podcast tekijän mukaan Brandon Tumblin - Tiistaisin

Strength I define as the ability to resist. The resistance takes many forms – it can take the form of a weight, for example. It can also take the form of adversity in life. Temptations. The pull to vice.If someone can deadlift 500 pounds, we may deem them physically strong. Their body is able to resist the 500 pound load. And it’s important to consider it as resistance as opposed to, perhaps, a push or a pull.Resistance training (weight training) does have pushes and pulls, but, contrary to what many may think, it shouldn’t be considered aggressive. That’s where the word “resist” comes in. When you resist something, you are by definition in a state of defense. The opposite is one of offense. It’s attack versus defend. The virtuous among us are not aggressive. They are defensive. They don’t “fight” vice or evil per se but rather defend against it.Find this episode on:https://linktr.ee/Strongstoic The Strong Stoic Podcast is a raw, honest, and unapologetically deep podcast about philosophy and self-improvement.
