From May 2011: A special edition of The Sounds of Lost Television featuring rarely heard highlights from Johnny Carson’s first few years on The Tonight Show, including audio from Johnny’s debut broadcast of Oct. 1, 1962. Most of the tapes from the first decade of the Tonight Show broadcasts were erased by NBC, so this is a rare opportunity to hear the King of Late Night in his early days.
